2017-03 SC Patsy Blasdell Workshop
Patsy Blasdell’s three day workshop was suitable for watercolor artists at all levels. In the workshop Patsy demod each day beginning with a floral, then an architectural subject, and the last day explored a still life. There was a focus overall at the workshop on design and composition with attention on choosing backgrounds so each piece of art is well designed. The use of abstract shapes using light and dark values in patterns so the observer’s eyes travel around the piece of art was demonstrated.
Patsy Blasdell is an optimist who always believes the glass is half full! She loves to have fun and stretch her abilities as a painter and encourages others to do the same.
Even preparation of the watercolor paper has been a journey to find what works best for her. Planning the design and composition by use of strong value contrasts is a trademark of Patsy’s work. She makes her statement with expressionistic use of color based on her emotional reaction to the subject such as a blue cat with orange eyes or a bright purple sunset! And she doesn’t sweat the small stuff like a run of Thalo Blue down through a white passage. That run must have a reason to be there.
She is a member of New Mexico Watercolor Society, Southern Chapter, Las Cruces and an accepted Associate Member of Pastel Society of America in New York City.
