The El Paso Arts International Show celebrated fifty years of existence with the opening of their 2017 exhibit at the International Museum of Art Saturday, September 7. There were 140 pieces of work juried in by three jurors: Robert Highsmith, Kimberly Rene Vanecek, and Rosario Ponte. Lyuba Titovets was the judge. There were 29 awards starting at $1000 for best of show garnered by Paul Dumond for Storage Facility. The show is hung at 1211 Montana Avenue in El Paso and will be up through Wednesday, October 4. There will be an artist talk Sunday, September 17 from 2-4 pm. Johnnie Gubanski won Lelaroy Williams Award for her Baby Boomer's Trike, watercolor. Dorian Clouser won the Catherine Kistenmacher Memorial Award for Perpetual Ballet, a full sheet watercolor of a rubber tree. And Julie Caffee Cruz won the Flo Estes Navar Memorial Award for her Backyard Brilliance depicting geraniums. Rachel Murphree, Penny Simpson, Karen Steinberg, Jacques Barriac and Nancy Diaz all have work in the show. Check days and hours. This is a marvelous museum at Montana and Brown.
